Where does the energy from fuel go?

Vehicles are made to move... and yet only 13 percent
of fuel is used to propel a vehicle.
Fuel is used by a vehicle in many other ways:
- 62 percent: Powertrain (engine, transmission)
- 17 percent: Driving behavior (idling, traffic congestion, driving habits)
- 13 percent: External losses (braking, rolling resistance, steering,
aerodynamic drag) - 6 percent: Driveline (driveshafts, differentials)
- 2 percent: Accessories (heating/cooling, electronic accessories)
